WHO WE ARE
Led by David K. Norman, the Washington State Geologist, the Washington State Geological Survey (a.k.a. Washington State Department of Natural Resources Division of Geology and Earth Resources) consists of geologists and support staff who aim to serve the state’s government and citizens by providing critical information and education pertaining to geology of Washington State.
WHAT WE DO
Our scientists are actively engaged in geologic resource identification, regulation and mapping. We monitor, assess, and research causes of earthquakes, landslides, and volcanoes, and publish information on geologic hazards – information that is critical to decision makers in government and the private sector, and key to reducing the human and financial effects of natural disasters.
